How many should we survey?

Even if we sampled the entire US adult population, we would not need more than 1,537 to be as accurate (+/- 2.5%) as most any national poll you will ever see.
Whether the population is the team’s database or the total fan base (e.g., all team followers) represented by the database, the minimum sample size is 384 (+/-5%).
Better accuracy is reached when we hit 784 (+/-3.5%) or even 1067 (+/- 3%).
The chart below provides the minimum sample size of various sports-related populations within a 95% confidence interval (i.e., we’d expect the same results 95 times out of 100).
