Sports Outreach
Social Impact
Wakefield supports outreach programs in Kenya, Nigeria, and around the world who seek to make a difference in the lives of youth through sport. We encourage others to join us in contributing time and money to support:
Hoops for Hope International, who are changing the world one bounce at a time. Hoops for Hope wants to see young people improve their basketball skills as well as discover that they are significant in this world. Everyone has a Purpose, Plan, Place, Part and Power and this outreach program is eager to help people discover these for themselves. Everything is done in a high-energy positive environment the kids absolutely love.
Hearts of Ruiru Sports Centre was founded in 2012 by Mary Mbaka and provides a safe space for children and youths aged 9-18 years to play and grow their talents in soccer. Through the soccer program needy but talented kids are able to get scholarships to high schools thereby solving the issue of school dropouts. Hearts of Ruiru also uses soccer as a platform to address various social issues. Hearts of Ruiru uses soccer as a platform to prevent/address Alcohol, Drug and Substance Abuse (ADSA) and juvenile delinquency among children and youths in Ruiru , Kenya. Mary believes in transforming the lives of children from underprivileged families through her most loved sport and currently has over 100 kids in the program with rehabilitated boys and girls back in school.
Jimmy Ovid is a grassroots soccer Coach/Manager of Ovid Football Club (The Academy), aimed at helping the less privileged who cannot afford getting to a bigger academy for training. Jimmy helps youth to do so and develop their soccer/football talent and thereby help them reach their full potential.
